travel & where to stay

FLIGHTS

Cancun International Airport (CUN) is the closest airport to our venue. We suggest that you arrive by Saturday, May 24, as our wedding takes place the next day. You can track prices on Google Flights or Momondo.com to figure out the best time to buy.

ACCOMMODATIONS

We’ll be staying in Playa del Carmen at Maya Villa. Please stay nearby if you plan on using our shuttles to travel to/from the venue. Other folks are staying at Porto Playa (Maya Villa's sister hotel), Riviera Maya Suites, Senses Quinta Avenida, and Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen. You can find more options on Booking.com, Agoda.com, and Airbnb at a variety of price points. If you're renting a car and driving yourself to the venue, you can disregard our suggestions and stay wherever.

Getting to Playa del Carmen FROM THE CANCUN AIRPORT

Taxi / Shuttle Service (45 min)
Booking a taxi in advance is often cheaper than getting a taxi in-person. Some recommended services include Happy Shuttle or Canada Transfers. Your hotel may offer a free airport shuttle service, so check with them first.

Rental Car (45 min)
If you’re planning to explore the greater Riviera Maya area, a car might be a good option! Many hotels and Airbnbs in Playa del Carmen offer free parking, but make sure to check when booking.

ADO Bus (60-75 min)
This is the most economical option, especially if you're traveling solo or in a pair. One-way tickets are ~$13 and can be purchased at the ADO kiosk on your way out of the airport. Buses leave every 20 minutes and drop off downtown. The buses are air conditioned, clean, and comfy. Alex has taken this bus alone multiple times, so you can reach out to her for more tricks and tips. You can also refer to this Reddit comment thread for more info.

Getting to the wedding

We'll provide shuttles between Playa del Carmen and the wedding venue. The shuttles will pick up and drop off from Maya Villa and Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen at 3:15pm on the wedding day, so please plan to be at one of those locations to board the shuttles.

If you plan to drive yourself, the venue has free parking.

HOW DO I RSVP?

1. Go to this page.
2. Enter your full name.
3. Respond for yourself (and if you wish, the rest of your party).

If you can't attend, please RSVP as soon as possible. You'll be missed, but we completely understand. Vacation is limited and travel is expensive – we'll celebrate with you another time!

WHAT IS THE VENUE LIKE?

The wedding venue is an outdoor space! The ceremony and mingling hour will be on the beach. The reception will be in a covered area. During the month of May, the weather in Playa del Carmen is sunny and tropical, with average highs of 85°F and lows of 72°F.

WHAT IS THE DRESS CODE? WHAT DOES BEACH FORMAL-ISH MEAN?

Wear whatever makes you feel the best! Please avoid pure white outfits and overly casual wear like jeans, t-shirts, swimwear, athletic wear, etc. We also recommend against full suits and dark colors since the weather will be hot, and you'll likely walk on sand.

What about visas?

If you have a valid U.S. passport or green card, you don’t need a visa to enter Mexico. If you don’t have these documents and need to apply for a visa, please let us know - we'll send you more resources.

DO YOU HAVE A GIFT REGISTRY?

No gifts, please! Your presence is the most generous gift of all. We're honored that you're traveling all the way to Mexico to celebrate with us. (Seriously. If you get us a gift, we'll return it.)

Can I bring a PLUS ONE?

Unfortunately, no. We’ve kept the guest list as intimate as possible to ensure that everyone at our wedding has been a key part of our lives.

Wait, but aren't you already married?

Yes yes, you're right. But who says we can’t have a belated celebration with our favorite folks? We’re on our own queer timeline anyhow :)

HOW WILL YOU SHARE UPDATES?

We'll send all updates from our joint email account (brinas.tong@gmail.com).
